Now, this is a little embarrassing to admit, but this summer is the first summer I have had underarm odor. That’s right folks! I turned 33 and bam! I guess it’s the age my body decided to ripen? I live in the South, and it’s August. That means it’s humid, hot, and sticky, prime weather conditions to make you sweaty and stinky.
I’ve been on this health journey for a few years now. My main focus began with my nutrition, which consisted of decreasing processed foods, sugar, and chemicals. I began to feel more amazing, for sure, and that got me noticing other toxins in the house beyond foods. Cleaners, toothpastes, and soaps (oh my)! So instead of heading out to the drugstore to buy a name-brand deodorant, I headed to the my kitchen cabinet to whip up my own homemade concoction.
It’s so quick and simple. This stuff really works too! There are a lot of simple and similar recipes online, so I used those as a base and added aloe vera because I have sensitive skin. The lavender oil is great for a fresh scent, but this recipe is great without the essential oil too, especially if you like the smell coconut and want to feel like you at the beach all day.
- 5 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup arrowroot starch
- 1/8 cup aloe vera gel (optional)
- 15 drops essential oil of choice (optional)
Blend all ingredients together and you’re ready to dab a little on your pits! I store mine in a glass jar.
