This smoothie is packed with healing properties and delicious goodness! If you’re looking for a filling smoothie that includes protein and tastes like a treat, then look no further my friend.
Now let me tell you a little bit about my thoughts when it comes to smoothie make’n. The more I learn about nutrition and how to pair foods, the more I learn what kind of nutrition my body needs to work optimally. You know how they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well, I don’t know about you, but for me it definitely is!
In order for me to make it from breakfast to lunch, I need protein and healthy fats to start the day. A great way for me to do this is to make a smoothie either as my breakfast or in addition to a meal, that includes the healthy fats, protein, and fiber that I need to keep me feeling satisfied.
The hemp seeds and coconut oil add a dose of healthy fats that not only helps with the absorption of nutrients, but adds that healthy glow to your skin. Added bonus: hemp seeds are also a great source of protein. Just 3 tablespoons packs about 16 grams! There’s no cut and dry answer for how much protein you need each day because everyone is different and it’s based on a few factors (male vs female, athletes, body type, etc). If you’re curious you can check out this handy protein calculator to figure out how much protein you may need everyday.
This smoothie also contains some other goodies I love such as cinnamon, which is a great way to sweeten the smoothie and it balances blood sugar. Cacao powder, is my go-to when I want a treat, contains iron and antioxidants. Guilt free chocolate indulgence? Yes please!
This smoothie also contains maca and spirulina, both of which increase energy and helps keep me going throughout the morning. Who doesn’t want a natural energy high to get them through the work day?
Now, on to the recipe!
– 2 bananas
– 3 tablespoons hemp seeds
– 2 tablespoons cacao powder
– 2 tablespoons maca powder
– 1 teaspoon cinnamon
– 1 teaspoon spirulina
– coconut nectar to taste (I used about a teaspoon)
– 2 cups coconut milk
– 1 tablespoon almond butter
– 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
– cacao nibs
– shredded coconut
– handful of ice
You know what to do! Blend baby blend! Pour into your favorite glass, top with cacao nibs, hemp seeds, and shredded coconut, and enjoy!
